Monika North — Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner.

Monika came to hearing care from a medical background and has spent years helping people stay connected to the moments that matter. She's known for a warm, unhurried approach and for the community outreach work she does across the north Island.

Shelley Henderson — Hearing Assistant.

Shelley is usually the first person you'll meet at our Campbell River clinic, and the one who'll sort out booking, paperwork and coverage questions before you've had to worry about any of it. She comes from a medical background, so the forms and the terminology are familiar ground — if something isn't clear, she'll explain it properly rather than hand you a leaflet. Shelley's roots are here in the community, and it shows in how she looks after people.

Why Campbell River chooses
Excuse Me Hearing

  • An independent clinic, not a branch of a national chain. Decisions about your care get made here, by the person sitting across from you.

  • One practitioner, start to finish. Monika does your evaluation, your fitting and your follow-ups. Nothing gets lost in a handover.

  • Honest pricing. Quality hearing aids without the markup, and a clear explanation of what you're paying for before you commit to anything.

  • Support that doesn't stop at the sale. Adjustments, cleanings and repairs for the life of your hearing aids.

  • Help with coverage. Veterans Affairs, First Nations Health, Ministry of Social Development — we'll help you work out what you're entitled to and handle the paperwork.

Hearing Aids

Fitted to your hearing, your ears and your actual life — a quiet house and a crowded pub need different settings, and we'll set both up before you leave.

Hearing Aid Repair & Cleaning

Repairs and professional cleaning, including for devices bought elsewhere. On the Island, waiting weeks for a repair to go off-Island and come back isn't much use to anyone — we handle what we can in-clinic.

Common Questions

Is the hearing test really free?

Yes. Our standard hearing evaluation is free, and there's no obligation to buy anything. Hearing tests done for employment or certification — RCMP, aviation and similar occupational medicals — are a separate paid service. Let us know which one you need when you book and we'll confirm the details with you.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No. You can book a hearing test directly with us in British Columbia — no doctor's referral required. If we find something we think a physician should look at, we'll tell you.

How long does an appointment take?

Plan on 30-45 minutes for a first visit. That covers the evaluation, going through your results, and answering your questions without rushing. Follow-up adjustments are usually much shorter.

Does MSP cover hearing aids?

For most adults in BC, MSP doesn't cover the cost of hearing aids — there are limited exceptions, including children under 19 and some people receiving income assistance. There are other funding routes worth checking, including Veterans Affairs Canada, the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, the Ministry of Social Development, and many extended health plans. We'll help you work out what applies to you.

What if I don't get on with my hearing aids?

Tell us. Most issues can be sorted with an adjustment, and we'd much rather you came back than put up with something that isn't working. Ask us about our trial terms before you commit — we'll go through them with you.

Serving Campbell River and the north Island

Our clinic is on Shoppers Row in downtown Campbell River, and we see people from Campbellton and Willow Point through to Black Creek, Sayward and the Comox Valley. We also see patients coming across from Quadra and Cortes.

If you're travelling by ferry or coming a long way, say so when you book. We'll try to fit your evaluation and your fitting into as few trips as we can, and we'd rather give you a longer appointment once than a short one three times.

Monika also runs community outreach across the north Island, bringing hearing screenings and support to communities without a local clinic.
